I didn’t know that I’d be going to Kosovo…but I’m really glad that I did. Ron has been consulting for USAID there for a while…so I rode along.
First, it was intriguing to be in Kosovo…being that it was one of the most recently war torn areas that I’ve visited. As I arrived, it looked a bit like I expected. Not much visible bomb damage…but still pretty dirty…and lots of UN and aid organization activity. I enjoyed just walking around the city and seeing things. People were working hard and I felt like there was more entrepreneurial activity than I’d seen anywhere else on my trip.
One of the highlights of the stay was getting to meet Gursel. He was from Kosovo and was consulting wiht Ron at USAID. He had gone to university in Norway and was an expert in feed systems. Over lunch and dinner I got to ask him lots of questions about Kosovo, his family, and the war.
I was in Kosovo for 2 days before catching a bus for Skopja, Macedonia and then a train to Thessoloniki, Greece and then to Athens. A long travel day!
