The High Tatras - Slovak Republic· Sep 1, 03:54 PM
Good Morning from sunny Dubrovnic! I finally got a chance to put up some pics of the Tatras. Budapest and Croatia are still in the works! (at least the google earth file is up to date)
OK – High Tatras – amazing! We spent three days hiking in and out of the mountains, carrying full packs. The climb was steep, but the views were incredible. In the evenings, we stayed in chalets or “chatas” where we could get a bunk bed and a warm meal. At the lower chatas, the accomodations were quite nice and fun loving. Toward the top, the accomodations were pretty sparse and the people seemed pretty hard core about their hiking.
Overall, this was a great change from seeing eastern european cities…and was quite invigorating. But in the end, we were glad to hike back out to civilization.
As I write this, I just finished reading a few articles on the New Orleans floods. They feel suprisingly close to me – even over here…and I pray for peace and healing.

Hey Everyone!
Just a quick note to let you all know that I’ll be out of contact for a few days until I get to Budapest. I met some folks in Cesky Krumlov and we decided to trek up into the High Tatras mountains of northern Slovak Republic. After a full day of travel, we got in late last night…and today we are taking cable cars and hiking up further to a chalet where we’ll stay for a few days and hike. We just got done shopping for 3 days food because there ain’t nothing up on the mountain. Fun!
I updated the Google Earth file so you can see how far out we are! :)
